Puerto Vallarta Events - December

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

Here are some of the don’t miss events for December in Puerto Vallarta:

Virgin of Guadalupe celebration: Starting around the first of December, Puerto Vallarta begins celebrating its patron saint, the Virgin of Guadalupe.  Local businesses and groups participate in candlelit processions with elaborate floats, music, Aztec folk dances and costumes. The public is welcome to participate and can purchase candles along the parade route.

One of the best things about the processions is that the streets are lined with vendors, allowing revelors to sample great Mexican food along the way.  The highlight of the festival is the last few days and particularly the last day.  The entire festival wraps up on December 12th with a  pilgrimage to the church and a special Mass in celebration of the occasion.

Vallarta Yacht Club’s Chili Cook-Off: Billed as one of their top events, Vallarta Yacht Club is holding their annual chili-cook-off at the yacht club, located in Paradise Village, right next door to the mall. The event starts at 4PM on Saturday, December 6th. If you love chili, you won’t want to miss this event!

Daiquiri Dick’s Pet Picnic: Another December 6th event, but this one is in the morning so you can attend both! Daiquiri Dick’s is holding their 3rd annual Pet Picnic on the patio of the beachfront restaurant. Pets are encouraged to wear a costume. Events including raffles, door prizes, costume contests and a fashion show.

Buying Property in Mexico

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

Here’s a great little article from Nicole over at Mexico Alive on 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Owning Property in Mexico.

She covers some great information, including: Property in Mexico can be purchased with a self-directed IRA (Individual Retirement Account) with no penalty, because buying foreign real estate is the same as buying a stock or bond. The only catch is the property must be treated as an investment.

Airfares are Falling for Mexico Travel

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

Good news for discount seeking travelers! This recent article details plummeting prices in airfares internationally and predicts an even bigger drop than the average $53 decrease that is currently happening.

Beautiful Puerto Vallarta is #4 on the list of top 10 international travel destinations currently being booked on Travelocity. Excellent choice because December in Puerto Vallarta is absolutely one of the best times to visit.

The days are warm but the nights are cool enough to wear pants or a light jacket. There’s also a ton of things happening for the holidays so it’s a great time to get in the holiday spirit without freezing!

That’s probably why so many people purchase a second home in Mexico after a few trips down to visit. There’s still a lot of great deals to be had so if you get a chance, check out the Sensara kiosk in Paradise Village!

Good News for Canadians: Cheap, Direct Flights to Mexico

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

Canadian budget airline Westjet just announced non-stop flights from Winnipeg to tourist destinations, Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlan. That’s good news for Canadians wishing for a short vacation to escape the cold winter but it’s even better news for Canadians who own second homes in Puerto Vallarta.

Although there aren’t any current statistics to draw from, some say there are an equal to or greater number of Canadians living in Puerto Vallarta and surrounding areas than even United States citizens. Some towns to the north such as Bucerias and Lo de Marco are well known for their Canadian enclaves.

Regardless of where you are from, Mexico has long been a popular place to retire thanks to a low cost of living, including affordable health care and low prescription drug prices. Americans can expect to pay hundreds less for medications than they would normally pay, often even with insurance, in the United States.

Hopefully more budget airlines will follow suit, making it even easier and cheaper for our neighbors to the north to come and visit. With the warm days and cool nights, Winter is the reason most of us live in Puerto Vallarta!

Mexico’s Assisted Living Market

Monday, November 17th, 2008

Here’s an interesting article from the Dallas News about the assisted living marketing in Mexico. While many people who move to Mexico aren’t ready for an assisted living home, there are still many reasons why moving to Mexico is a smart move when you get older.

  • Temperate climate. Many parts of Mexico, Puerto Vallarta in particular, offer a moderate climate year round.
  • Affordable health care. Even without insurance Mexico offers quality health care options. Of course, health insurance is available as well. Travelers have been visiting Mexico for years to take advantage of low prescription medications.
  • Higher quality of life. Ask anyone who has moved to or retired in Mexico if they have a higher quality of life than before. You will always get a YES! Luxuries that may have been out of reach in your home country are available here. These include having a housekeeper or cook, having more leisure time and buying a high quality home in a great location for a lot less than you would pay up north!

By purchasing your Mexican dream home now, you can start earning appreciation on a property that can provide you with a wonderful lifestyle when you are finally ready to settle and retire in Mexico.
